AIS is now widely implemented in SOLAS class vessels around the world. Although primarily intended for ship to ship communications, AIS offers real advantages for shore based vessel tracking and when combined with traditional sensor type information such as ARPA radar targets, provides a vessel tracking environment that exceeds AIS or ARPA individually. HSA was an key contributor
to the AIS trials held in the Great Barrier Reef between 2000 and 2001
conducted by Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) and the Australian Maritime
Safety Authority (AMSA). HSA's AIS Compatible Technologies Vessel Tracking System - TMACS Electronic Chart System - Endeavour® AIS Transponders AIS Links International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities - IALA International Maritime Orginisation - IMO
