Zones of Confidence (ZOCs)

HSA utilises ENC Designer^® & Google Earth^® to capture & portray ZOC's.

HSA recently completed an 18 month project for Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) to assess and assign Zones of Confidence (ZOC's) to all hydrographic surveys incorporated in the entire portfolio of the 138 hydrographic charts of New Zealand.

The project required each hydrographic survey to be assessed in relation to the data quality aspects of the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) S-57 Standard. The application of an extensive local knowledge of hydrographic surveying practices undertaken in New Zealand was crucial to the project.

The use of the ENC Designer ZOC tool set (developed specifically by HSA), was an important aid that assisted in completing the project well ahead of the projected delivery date.

As an early implementer of Google Earth technology, HSA has created a viewing tool that enables the technical nature of the ZOC data to be viewed in a graphical and interactive way. Google Earth as integrated by HSA is an excellent spatial backdrop for viewing ZOC's data. (and other hydrographic and related data sets)
